Arjun K. Sengupta, Chairman

Dr. Sengupta
is currently Adjunct Professor of Development and
Human Rights, Harvard University, and Professor
(Honorary), Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.

He
was the Independent Expert on the Right to
Development at the Human Rights Commission, Geneva
and Chairman. Currently he is the Independent
Expert on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights at the
Human Rights Commission, Geneva and is also
Chairman (with a Cabinet Minister's rank) of the
National Commission on Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector. His work at CDHR involves the
implementation of RTD in the context of South Asia
in general and India in particular.
Dr.
Sengupta has served as Economic Adviser to the
Government of India and Special Secretary to the
Prime Minister. He was India's Ambassador to
European Union at Brussels and Executive Director
for India, Bangladesh and Bhutan at the
International Monetary Fund and a Special Adviser
to the Managing Director, IMF. He retired from
the Government as Member Secretary of the Indian
Planning Commission and was Professor of
International Economic Organization,
School of
International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru
University, New Delhi.

Priyanca M. Velath
Ph.D
Candidate, Centre for the Study of Law and
Governance, JNU, New Delhi.
A political
scientist by training, Ms. Velath completed her
graduation from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and
came to JNU, New Delhi to pursue her MA and M.Phil
at the Centre for Political Studies, JNU. A Junior
Research Fellowship (JRF-UGC) receipient, she also
went to
U.K. to
do the M.Sc in Forced Migration at the Refugee
Studies Centre, Oxford University. Her primary
areas of research include the rights of displaced
populations in India, particularly those displaced
by development projects and she has presented
papers at conferences abroad, besides working with
NGOs in New Delhi. At CDHR, she is Editor of the
Rights and Development Bulletin.

Reji K. Joseph Ph.D
Candidate, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning,
JNU, New Delhi.
Mr. Joseph has completed his
M.Phil in Economics from the Centre for Development
Studies, Trivandrum. He joined CDHR in 2002 to work
on the interlinkage between trade and human rights
within the RTD framework, specifically in relation
to international organizations like the WTO.
Currently his primary area of research include
agricultural economics, health, Intellectual
Property Rights and WTO related issues.

Y.George Administrative Officer
Mr.George has been at CDHR
from its inception in 1999, after a career at the
Ministry of External Affairs. He has held positions
in Indian embassies abroad, and was the Private
Secretary to Dr. Sengupta during his tenure as
Ambassador to the European Union in Brussels.

Bantu Kalra Systems
Administrator
Mr.Kalra has been working at CDHR since its
inception in 1999. He has extensive experience in
computer based applications, and has worked in
graphic design for the print media. He is also the
resident librarian. Presently, he is working as
Secretary to Dr. Arjun Sengupta. Chairman CDHR.
